Private Dentist London
I was born in Germany to British forces parents. My father was an RAF jet pilot and my mother had been in the WRNS.
I went to Culford School outside Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. The 400 acres of parkland with extensive sports fields, a river and a lake were where my love of the outdoors began.

When my father left the airforce and became a commercial pilot, our first family home was established in Berkshire, where my parents still live.

Leaving home and starting my dental studies at Guy's Hospital was a very exciting time.
I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my 5 years there and am grateful to those who inspired me to strive for the very best in dentistry

I knew from a very early stage in my postgraduate career that to achieve this I would need to broaden my horizons. I undertook a 3 year program of study at The University of Illinois in Chicago. The dentistry I experienced there was more complex than anything I had seen in the U.K. and provided an excellent grounding in highly technical treatments.
On returning to England I worked in a variety of practices and teaching hospitals in and around London. I found the opportunity to share my knowledge and inspire postgraduate students at The Eastman Institute of Dental Surgery very rewarding. As a clinical lecturer at the Eastman (1985-1996) I was also able to research a method of measuring tooth stability. This ultimately led to the award of a doctorate (PhD).

Plowman and Partners already had a long history and rich heritage, having been established in Queen Anne Street in 1922.
I joined the Partnership in Harcourt House, Cavendish Square in 1986. Since then I have had the pleasure to work with and be mentored by Chris Lambert, Jonathan Bradbeer, William Lloyd and Johny Wakeham who have subsequently retired.
In the meantime the partnership was joined by Lochana Nanayakkara and four others. The Curriculum Vitae of all these excellent dentists are on our main website.
All six of us are registered by the General Dental Council as Specialists in a variety of fields. I have always wanted to work in a truly multidisciplinary way and this is now possible.

In recent years I have returned to teaching. I teach young qualified dentists at The Royal London Hospital who are setting out on their postgraduate clinical training. I was always the most inspired by teachers who could demonstrate a given treatment skill rather than just talk about it. For this reason I teach a hands on practical course with clinical demonstrations of treatment procedures

Life outside dentistry
I work in the Practice four days per week and have done so since 1996. This "extra day" has allowed me to pursue lots of outside interests as you will see elsewhere on this site.
It has also helped me to maintain the energy, commitment and enthusiasm required for delivering the very finest dental care about which I remain passionate and underpins my philosophy that my patients deserve only the very best in terms of comprehensive, prevention-oriented and technically superior dental care.

Life away from dentistry revolves around my young family. We occasionally escape to Suffolk for weekends. Winter holidays often involve skiing and I believe that there is no bad time of year to visit Sri Lanka..
